Our Teen Intensive is one of our favorite projects all year!! We love getting to work with some amazingly talented young people. It is a huge task to put together a show so quickly but these students always rise to the challenge and produce high quality results!!
Last year our NEWSIES production cast got to work with 3 actors from the Broadway cast, Kara Lindsay, Tommy Bracco, and Adam Kaplan.
Our Production was nominated for 4 regional Broadway World Awards: Best Musical-Winner, Best Actor in a Musical (Kyndall Reed)-Winner, Best Choreography (Stephen Newton)-Runner Up, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical (Jack Swearingen)-Runner Up
Commonly asked Questions/Needed Information:
How many students do you take? We try to cap our cast at 40 students.
Will there be auditions? Yes! We will have auditions June 2 and 3. If more than 40 students sign up, auditions will determine who is accepted into the intensive as well as what parts they will receive.
Where are you located? The intensive will take place in our theatre space at 805 Keller Parkway, Keller TX 76248.
What do I need to do to register? Registration opens at 9:00 am on February 10. Registration will require a deposit of $250 plus the $25 audition fee. These fees are non-refundable unless we do not accept your student into the program. If your student is not accepted, we will refund the $250 deposit but the $25 audition fee is not refundable. Once you sign up and pay your deposit, you will be sent a link to sign up for an audition spot.
How will auditions work? Students will sign up for an audition slot. That will be their vocal time slot. They will need to prepare 16-32 bars (measures) of a Broadway song in the style of the show. We prefer that they choose something that is NOT in the the show. They will be singing with an accompanist and will need their printed music, clearly marked, and in the correct key. There will also be a dance call on the audition days. We try to teach the dance section every hour and allow the students to learn and perform the dance combination in groups.
Will you have callbacks? Yes. Call backs will be late afternoon on June 3. Those invited for a callback will sing songs from the show, read scenes from the show, and dance again. If you do not receive a call back that does not necessarily mean that you aren’t cast.
Are there any other costs/fees? Students are allowed to leave for lunch each day or bring their own lunch. Students will be responsible for their own footwear and tights (if needed). We might ask if your student has a costume item (i.e. Khaki shorts, Hawaiian shirt, etc.) If you can not provide those items, they will be provided for you. We also ask all of our actors to “underdress.” (Leotards or tank and shorts). There are optional items offered as well: Show Shirt/Sweatshirt, Program ShoutOuts/ads, Show DVD.
When will tickets go on sale? Tickets will be $15 each and will go on sale on June 5. Tickets are reserved seating.
How can a parent get involved? We LOVE parent help!! There will be many opportunities for parents to help. These include, Front of House, Concessions, Sets, Painting, Props, Costumes, Tickets, Ushers and Clean up.
My student is interested in tech. We are accepting a few students to help with technical aspects of this show. Sets, Sound, Lighting, Props, Backstage Crew etc. If your student is interested in one of those volunteer opportunities, please reach out at info@txmtc.org and we will get you an application form.
I have another question that isn’t answered here. If you still need more information or clarification, feel free to email us at info@txmtc.org or call/text 817-301-7821 and we will be more than happy to help you.
